The Spark Returns to Cragside Thanks to Transparent Displays

Take a look at this amazing transparent display created by mdesign for the National Trust at Cragside House, Northumberland. The installation is titled ‘The Magic of Lord Armstrong’s Laboratory’, the Spark returns to Cragside (after 120 years). The main premise of the installation is that the experiments documented in Lord Armstrong’s publication ‘Electrical Movement in Air and Water’ are being reconstructed in front of your very eyes by Mr Britton and Mr Moore from within the Spark Cabinet. The centrepiece in the room is referred to as ‘The Spark Cabinet’ Mdesign were appointed creative partners by the National Trust in 2016 for ‘The Magic of Lord Armstrong’s Laboratory’ at Cragside House, Northumberland. This is a permanent installation in the original Laboratory built by Lord Armstrong in the 1890’s. Using archive publications of the experiments conducted over 120 years ago several of the experiments and some of the apparatus have been presented with the aid of transparent displays as interactive reconstructions. The presentation of the reconstruction draws on the parallel evolution of Victorian Magic and Science. During the 1800’s there was a deep fascination with science and magic. Many inventors and scientists were being called magicians and many magicians were using science to produce ever impossible illusions. Both the performance of the latest sensational illusion and demonstrations of the most recent developments in science were presented to the Victorian public with theatre and showmanship. Mdesign have used early illusion techniques such as peppers ghost, bottled heads, and infinity mirrors along with a large dose of modern transparent technology to present the experiments. Small Transparent 7 Inch LCD with PCAP Touch

Check out the latest addition of the option for PCAP touch now for small scale transparent LCDs. This has never before been possible for such small displays! We have been offering our customers bespoke Infrared touch sensors for years which work phenomenally with our transparent LCD displays. However as touch technology moves forward, PCAP grows in popularity but is a lot harder to match transparent displays and near on impossible for smaller scale sizes. Despite this we have done it for our 7″ transparent LCD which we are very proud of and would like to share with you! Transparent OLED Panels End of Life (EOL) Announced

As you may know, here at CDS we have been working hard over the past few months to bring together the best possible offering on the TOLED display. Launching our very own LucidVue display which created quite a buzz in the market and had an amazing response from both our customers and new contacts alike. However, it has become short-lived as in the last few days we have learnt some unfortunate news. We regret to inform you that Samsung have officially made the Transparent OLED Display Panel End of Life, which is the base panel used in all Transparent OLED products available on the market. This means that we, and other companies, can no longer offer this product going forward. There has been talk of a “Last Time Buy” option but as it will not be supported in the future we will not be offering this service to our customers. This is due to the fact that we would not be able to offer the full support our customers are used to if there are any future issues with the panels. Problems with fragility and reliability could arise and we would not be able to rectify or replace the costly panel which could be expensive for all concerned. The reason for the EOL notice is quite simply that the global quantity is not high enough for Samsung (or any other major manufacturer) to justify the investment or to peruse with the impressive product. There is talk of LG also manufacturing Transparent OLED next year BUT we believe that with the Samsung decision this will now be in doubt. CDS wanted to warn their customers and acquaintances that the risk now is also that companies in the Far East, Europe and USA may want to offload their products as soon as possible to avoid the risk of being stuck with unsupported parts. This may also include B grade panels that were rejected for Tier 1 use that find their way into the ‘grey’ market. Our advice to people that have committed to this product is that they should try to cancel / return if possible due to the risk of lack of support going forward, or if you are going to receive the product ensure you have a 3-year warranty agreement for parts and labour to protect yourself and your clients. Potential solutions NOW? The closest alternative to the TOLED is the upgraded Transparent LCD panel and showcase solutions. Clearly not the same technology but you can still showcase products behind a transparent LCD glass in either a deep or slim Transparent showcase box.
