The kits included 1 Transparent Display panel with supporting frame + Interface card with USB and HDMI inputs + power supply.  This is effectively a plug and go kit with the client only needing to add backlighting and content. But as apart of the service CDS also offers some excellent Free Of Charge content so the customer does not even have to worry about that. Therefore to get up and running with a Transparent Display kit has never been easier! The 3 approaches to file transfer for Digital Signage

Modern digital signage players support three ways of transporting files from here to there and back again. Digital Sign Networks Can Be Simple to Complex Transport, transfer, conveyance, movement –that is, getting from here to there and back with the “stuff” of digital signage may seem a bit mundane to those who are knee-deep in the digital signage deluge. But to many, it’s probably never been given a second thought. This column is devoted to the topics of moving digital signage “stuff,” what that “stuff” is and how to do it. If you’re a digital signage veteran, you might want to move on; but if you just recently discovered digital signage and are new to the party, read on. You’re bound to find something useful. So, what is the “stuff” of digital signage? A few things come to mind, including the playlist –in other words the sequence of all events that will be played out and displayed on the sign as well as commands that trigger a device that’s external to the digital signage player, such as a monitor, to do something – a master schedule that can include multiple playlists and the actual media files, including video, audio, text, graphics and animation, required for playout. Transporting this material can be accomplished in three basic ways: first, via IP over the public Internet; second, via IP over a local area or wide area network; and third via a portable digital storage device, such as a USB drive or SD memory card, and the use of your Keds, which otherwise is known as “sneakernet.” There are more advanced methods of transport include cellular and IP multicasting via satellite links, but these methods are not very common and are outside the scope of this article. Clearly, different digital signage applications require different approaches to the transport of media, schedules and playlists. A retail store, for example, with a basic installation of one or two digital signage players is a perfect candidate for the sneakernet approach. It’s quick, convenient and removes a layer of complexity that would be required otherwise if a LAN/WAN or Internet transfer were employed. A bigger installation, such as a large hotel with convention and meeting facilities scattered throughout the complex, would be better served using IP transport via a LAN or WAN.  No one must carry a USB drive from player to player because schedules, playlists and media files are easily transported to individual players or groups of players on the network. Each player is assigned its own IP address in this scenario and can be pinged from a central computer on the network to determine that it is functioning. Existing content and control files can be inspected, and new schedules, playlists and content transferred with a simple mouse click. Digital signage applications that are larger still –say statewide, national or international in scope- are candidates for transport via the public Internet. With the proper security measures in place, the Internet offers a highly efficient way to transport digital signage “stuff” around the globe. There is another important part of this transfer story that must not be ignored. Digital signage playback can require a tremendous number of files that must be organized and stored so they can be easily retrieved by the player when needed. Whether files are transferred via a USB storage device or an Ethernet connection, the right version of the file better end up in the right folder.  Otherwise, the playlist won’t find the media needed for playback. Add to this the complexity introduced when multiple people build content and playlists for a sign or groups of signs, and the need for software that tracks versions of media files, manages permissions for who is authorized to make changes and maintains consistency in file structure and placement between the player and content workstations becomes all the more important. What to look for in your Digital signage video wall deployment

Video walls are growing in popularity by the day. Part of their appeal is how they inspire imagination. While static signs remind us of the past, video walls tell us the future is now and deliver the wow factor, whether for a company looking to convey a cutting-edge image or for a retailer elevating its brand. Feeling costs of these Displays was escalating CDS offers low cost videowall solutions to meet every budget. They are scalable and come in varying shapes and sizes. The 6×5 version at the Victoria’s Secret Manhattan store pictured is an excellent example. Bezels are shrinking yet displays continue to offer refined picture quality and higher resolutions. And video walls inspire creativity, too. But organisations still need to think through their implications and have a plan for success. Here are some tips for getting the most from your video wall deployments from Michael Ferrer, national manager of solutions sales and operations at NEC Display Solutions in the U.S. 1. Determine your digital signage needs and goals. It’s important to give strong consideration to the video wall’s purpose, size considerations and client goals. Will the video wall be used for branding, advertising, way-finding, or something else? Will it be interactive? If these questions can’t be answered with specifics, then a highly functioning video wall system will be difficult to design. And executives will not be happy after they spend a lot of money on it. 2. Content is king. Determine the number of images to be displayed at one time. Talk about the types of content to be shown before the hardware gets installed. You don’t want to be tweaking content on the fly minutes before a grand opening. And in what resolutions and formats will the content be designed? It’s imperative to have this conversation with the content creators upfront. 3. Go native. Content needs to match the screens with native resolutions. All the hardware components should match so you don’t have bandwidth restrictions. Some graphics cards can’t handle full HD. Flash has limitations. You need experts involved to stretch Flash content with native resolutions, for example. 4. Choose professional-grade products. Use displays that can be colour-calibrated to achieve brightness and colour uniformity from screen to screen. Industrial-strength monitors can handle the most rugged of applications, while consumer-grade products can’t handle commercial demands 24/7. Go with high-end products for their reliability, inputs and colour calibration capabilities. 5. Choose appropriate mounting systems and access for maintenance. This is very important since labour is the most expensive part of any video wall project. Is the existing wall structure sound? Get a structural engineer involved to make sure that it can support a video wall. For maintenance, ensure that you use pull-out mounts to service the video walls correctly and safely. 6. Keep it cool. Video walls produce a lot of heat. Proper cooling and ventilation need to be part of the overall project and budget. Purchasing displays that offer integrated cooling fans will ensure unfailing operation. 7. Determine electrical requirements. Make sure you have thought through all the necessary components for the video wall system. If you’re deploying 15 screens, you can’t power them from one outlet. You need dedicated power. If you’re a hotel, you don’t want to turn on the microwave in your kitchen and discover that your video wall has shut down. Discuss power conditioners and surge protection with your systems integrator. 8. Use trained professionals for installation. Do yourself a favour and connect with an experienced partner for the installation. That partner will help you locate power sources and data jacks, and help you do the job correctly the first time. 9. Perform colour calibration as part of system maintenance. This will ensure a consistently good-looking video wall for years to come. Also make sure you budget maintenance and cleaning of your video wall to ensure functionality and a great look for the long term. If you don’t vacuum vents, for example, the ensuing heat accumulation can destroy the monitors. Maintenance contracts should be discussed upfront. Keeping this checklist in mind can help you make the most of your video wall and endear you to audiences and bosses alike. Touch screens help bring museums to life

Museums are seen by many, particularly children, to be dull and lifeless places. In the past, you may have wandered through rooms full of glass cabinets, struggling to read the exhibit labels and work out which number related to which artefact. Fortunately, the developments in digital technology are changing museums, just as they’re transforming schools, workplaces and cultural institutions everywhere. The maxim used to be “look but don’t touch”. Now institutions large and small are embracing the idea that touch screen monitors can give visitors a more hands-on experience. Choose how to learn with interactive touch screens In the past, the way a visitor chose to explore an exhibition or gallery might depend on the knowledge and availability of the guide showing them around. Touch screen monitors, however, have made the experience flexible for everyone. Interactive kiosks use a mixture of sounds, pictures, maps and narrative to bring exhibits to life. Touch screens bring the past closer Rising insurance and transport costs can sometimes make it difficult for even national museums to secure the exhibits they need. Wear and tear can also be an issue, particularly when loaning out costumes and items of clothing. With touch screens, you can offer an alternative virtual exhibit, allowing people to see and touch it from every angle. For example, you may be hundreds, or even thousands of miles away from a medieval suit of armour, but you can still examine every rivet. See exactly where you are with touch screens When you’re viewing exhibits in a gallery or museum, it’s important to understand the context. Otherwise, relics may not have the impact you expect. Touch screen monitors are revolutionising our ability to see an object in relation to the place it came from and how it was used. A 3D virtual tour can allow navigation of the streets of ancient cities like Rome or Athens. Looking at ancient statues, vases, coins and weapons is more significant when you feel part of the world from which they came. Touch screen monitors promote visitor engagement Kids benefit when they can learn at their own pace and experiment with what interests them. A good example of this is the Climate Change Wall at London’s Natural History Museum. The wall is one of the displays in the state-of-the-art Darwin Centre, which opened to the public in September 2009. A 12 metre wall, incorporating hundreds of images and graphics, allows students to see the devastating effects of human life on the natural world. Approaching the wall causes the display to change, and touching some of the panels can reveals more detailed information. Get the souvenir you want The gift shops of museums, though popular, are often relatively small. Touch screen monitors in gift shops, however, are a cost-effective and space-saving way of giving customers a much greater choice of merchandise. They allow customers to browse through the vast catalogue of images and take home what they really want – as opposed to what is left on the shelves at the end of a busy day. Museums are a vital part of culture in the UK and across the world. Touch screens, when used wisely, can keep the experience of visiting such a place exciting and fresh for the whole family.
